2010 focus

Read this great review and write up: 2010 focus

Q: Is Gulf gasoline a good gas to use in my 2010 Ford Focus, or would you recommend a different brand?
I wish to keep my new car running at peak performance, and good reliability. Is there better or worse gasoline brands for my new 2010 Ford Focus. It needs 87 octaine.

A: Gasoline is a commodity, like 2% milk, enriched flour, pine 2×4’s, staples… The government defines how these items are made, gasoline has different formulas for winter, summer, and 20 other factors. I have heard some people swear for or against certain brands. My experience is that occasionally a certain individual gas station might not take proper precautions to protect their tanks from water or contamination. And I have gotten some “bad gas”, but it has happened like twice in my life. Usually a bottle of ‘heat’, or something to rid your system of moisture, helps. And a dirty little secret..sometimes several different brands will buy from the same supplier. Go buy the cheapest gas you can find, and the lowest octane, your ford focus will be totally happy, it does not care what you pay.

Q: Early Ford Focus cars had “bad key cylinder issues.” Has this issue been resolved for 2010 Focus?
I own a 2010 ford focus, and have been reading that the 2000 thru 2005 Focus suffered from –bad key cylinder issues with the key starter getting stuck, or broken. I was wondering if anyone knows for sure if this issue has been resolved in the newer 2010 models of Focus. Thanks.

A: The 2nd generation of Focus is 2008-2011.

So your 2010 is a different model then the 2005 you mentioned. It should have all different systems so the old issues don’t apply. Although you may have new different issues

Q: What is the difference between the 2009 ford focus and the 2010?
I’m buying a new ford focus and i was wondering what the difference between getting the 2009 and the 2010? I will be getting the SES coupe with mostly all of the upgrades !

A: I research the 09 and 10 model and the different is that the 10 version SES model comes standard 17 inch painted alloy wheels, standard abs with dynamic control, ford sync system now is upgraded to a navgation, traffic, and info system and last the mykey feature which now the remote keyless entry is ingrated to the key. Keep in mind 09 model are better deal cuzz u get the 2500 dollars rebate while the 10 version u get only 1000 rebate. My dad bought the 2009 ford focus SES and he got it for 10999 plus tax and fee and the msrp is 19375 so pretty much rape the ford dealership. Good Luck

Q: How does the 2010 Ford Focus handle in snow?
I’m looking at getting a new car with good gas mileage and I really like the new Ford Focus. However, I live in Michigan and we get a lot of snow. We are due for some hard winters and we probably will get really deep snow. I would rather not get stuck in the snow and have to push my car around. Thanks!

A: the focus, like most front wheel drive cars, is relatively good in the snow since the engine weight is directly over the drive wheels. with a good set of blizzack snow tires on the front it should serve you well.
the one thing that would be tough is when the snow is deep and the roads aren’t plowed. when it’s like that you need ground clearance and you really won’t find that with any cars!
you could consider an all wheel drive car…but it doesn’t solve the ground clearance problem and cost considerably more than a normal 2 wheel drive car.
also, just a suggestion, before you buy new compare used.
the new car dealers ARE offering some nice prices to clear out inventory…but if you can buy the same thing with 20k miles on it you might find you can save alot!
good luck!!

Q: How do you turn the esp on in a 2010 ford focus?
I am renting a car to go visit my family in columbus ohio and i am in the focus and i saw that it had stability control. I pressed the stability control and all i saw on the instrumentpanel was a car with skid marks behind it. Does this mean that it is on or off? Thanks For your help.

A: The icon/light that you describe is for the
ADVANCETRAC STABILITY ENHANCEMENT SYSTEM
Your vehicle may be equipped with the AdvanceTrac system. The
AdvanceTrac system provides the following stability enhancement
features for certain driving situations:
• Traction Control System (TCS), which functions to help avoid
drive-wheel spin and loss of traction.
• Electronic Stability Control (ESC), which functions to help avoid skids
or lateral slides

The system default is “ON”
When you press the button, you are turning it “Off”

For more information about the system , see pages 179-183 of the digital (download-able) Owners guide. Link provided in source area.

Q: I want to change my 2010 focus from automatic to manual?
I wanna change my transmission to manual. Can you give me a part price for the gear box and where i could get the work done? i live in florida. And how much everything would cost.

A: many thousands of dollars and you’ll have no warranty afterward.

In short: really bad idea. It would be smarter to trade it in for what you want, but that will be expensive too since the biggest hit on depreciation is when the car is new.

The smart thing for now is to just live with it until you pay it off and then decide what to do.

Q: What car is better 2010 Ford Focus or 2010 Chev Cobalt?
I’m wanting a buy one of these cars, they are both around the same price but which is better?

A: ford is becoming increasingly reliable and they are getting great mpg. chevrolet is stillstruggling in those areas. compared to the cobalt, the focus wins in a landslide. its better looking, better built, safer, and the best choice.

Q: Is Gulf gasoline the best gas to use in my 2010 Ford Focus?
I am looking for the best gas for my new car to keep it running clean and efficiently from the start. Gulf is near me. Should I use it, or a different brand? Thanks!

A: As long as you stay with national brands you’ll be good, however, gasoline does not clean, it makes the injectors dirty, the tops of pistons dirty, valves too. You will need to use a “fuel system cleaner” to keep your internal combustion engine clean.

Q: What muffler should i get for my 2010 ford focus se sedan?
im looking to put some racing stuff on my car but my dad isn’t exactly supportive, so what kind of muffler should i put on my car? and what kind of body kit and spoiler?
(my car is a 4-door, 5-passenger, 2.0L DOHC 14 engine, automatic transmission)

A: 2.0L will never be fast go with factory specs

Q: Is the 2010 Ford Focus a reliable compact car?
I prefer the stying of this 2010 to the new ones soon to come out. I also prefer it over Honda, and Corolla, and Nissan because it looks American and not oriental. How well built and reliable is a new 2010 Ford Focus compared to the competition? Thanks

A: well ford focus is one of the best Compact car specially the RS and WRX mode… well actually Speed3 is much more faster than the Focus and more efficient. but in most reviews they suggest the focus rather than the speed3 although the are both sharing technologies.. most prefered focus because it’s an american car they say.

Q: I’m going to buy a car & options are Mitsubishi lancer & ford focus 2010.?
Ok, so I’m going to buy a car tomorrow. My options due to the best offers I have found in Puerto Rico are a Mitsubishi lancer & ford focus 2010. What car & color would you choose? Just a little info, usually in my old car I use like 3,000 miles every six weeks in the highway. The price is the same and that is what I could afford.

A: The Lancer is, IMO, better looking and likely to be the more fun to drive, especially if it happens to be an EVO; but the Focus is likely to be more practical, economical, and reliable, especially if you’d like the choice of a sedan or coupe. If we were discussing the “global” 2012 Focus Ford is bringing to North America from Europe, the decision would be in favor of Focus hands-down, especially with Ford’s terrific EcoBoost engine. 2012 Focus is an evolution of what is one of Europe’s best selling and very favorite vehicles that’s universally praised by owners, reviewers, and mechanics alike.

If you can wait until the end of the year, you too would agree the Focus is the far better without question. Until then however, it’s a virtual toss-up once all things are considered, so you will have to choose based upon the features and characteristics most important to you.

Best of luck. I hope this helps.

Q: Ford put Motorcraft full synthetic oil in my 2010 Focus @ 2300 miles first oil chg. Was this a good decision?
2010 ford focus–first oil change–3 months–ar 2300 miles. I drive about 6000 miles per year. Mostly highway in Pennsylvania. Should I have waited to switch to full synthetic, and will Fords Motorcraft full synthetic oil protect my engine as well as others considering my driving conditions? thanks.

A: synthetic is better yes. the more frequently you change your oil the longer your engine will last. some manufacturers have longer intervals they recommend. but 3,000 miles is the rule we go by in my shop. the more often the longer life your engine will have. synthetic dose not break down like regular bulk oil dose. the oil dealers use if not synthetic is bulk oil. recycled oil as a matter of fact. personally i don’t what recycled oil in my engine. ill use store bought cheap oil before i will use bulk oil. all dealers use bulk oil. they use so much oil a day in oil changes they kind of have too. couldn’t afford to put the good stuff in ever car that comes through the door. not at 30 dollars an oil change no way. the only time synthetic is bad is if you have a special purpose race engine like on some motorcycles that have porcelain cylinder walls and use wet clutches in the drive. synthetic can damage these engines. but in a regular car engine synthetic is great. you just cant start using synthetic if you drove the car 100,000 miles on regular oil. after that switching would be pointless. but switching to synthetic early in the cars life and continuing to use synthetic from now on you will get more life out of your engine. and the more frequently you change your oil regardless what the manual says the longer your engine will last as well.

Q: What should i name my rental car its a blue 2010 ford focus ses?
Just need a name for it.

A: I can somewhat understand people naming their own car but a rental
