Q: What would make the air conditioner belt in a subara impreza?
What would make the air conditioner belt in a subaru impreza squeak really loud? We have tried changing the compressor and the belts BUT it still makes that sound. My dads mechanic has been working on it and is GM certified. Any ideas on what else to try?

A: Did you try the tensioner? That might make the noise.

Q: Which gear oil for subaru impreza is better?
I’m planning to change my gear oil for my subaru impreza 2006. Which gear oil is better? Amsoil severe gear, Motul or Cusco?

A: I don’t think it really matters what you use as long as you put the right weight of oil in the gear box,If it’s a standard transmission which i’m sure it is ,then you should use a 80-90 weight gear oil.

Q: How do i fit an hks turbo timer to a classic subaru impreza?
Have recently bought an hks turbo timer for my 2000 impreza, problem is i need detailed instructions on how to fit it, right down to what and where my wiring harness plugs into and where to find the particular wiring connections that i need as i having looked at the wiring under my steering column, i am slightly confused. Any help would be appreciated, cheers
JG- already have those instructions! Has anyone fitted one themselves?

A: Instructions here;

Q: How much will it cost to tint the windows of my 2008 Impreza?
I have a 2008 Subaru Impreza. I live in Southern California. How much do you think it’ll cost to tint the windows? And I’d want well done tints, no crappy ones. How much do you think this would cost?

A: If you do all five, $150-$200 for a decent tint job. Visit a Subaru forum and see if they have a recommendation for a tint shop around your area.

Q: How much monthly would it cost me to lease a 2008 subaru impreza wrx?
Well im highly considering leasing a 2008 subaru impreza wrx for 3 or 4 years. With around 2 thousand down on the car how much do you think I will have to pay monthly lets say if i lease it for 3 years or maybe 4 years.

A: Your best bet is to go to a dealer and ask. If they have lease offerings going on they will tell you the exact amount you have to pay. Leases are tricky because the terms are usually set by the lender. You can’t just go in and say I have this much and only want to pay this much like with a loan.

Q: 1994 Subaru Impreza HX4WD – How to turn out of the straight line when pulling handbrakes?
When I pull the handbrake in my 4WD impreza, it just slides in a straight line. I understand why. but is there any way to turn it around and pop the back out? Does this mean that if I take a corner too fast and I slide, I wont be able to control it from going straight?

A: You have a balanced car and trying to make it tail happy? That may be fun, but parking brake turns are not usually the fastest way around a corner unless trying to do a 180. 4WD may tend to push in tight corners, but too much steering will not help. A wide enough line, smooth steering inputs and the right amount of power, should pull you the direction the front wheels are pointed.

Generally if you want to make a car oversteer, you soften up the front suspension, or stiffen the rear suspension (sway bar or springs). Or a front strut tower brace may help.

Q: What is the difference between a subaru impreza turbo base model, wrx, and wrx sti?
Thinking of buying an impreza turbo. Would like to know what the difference is between the three main models.
I’m talking about the original shape up to about the year 2000. Is there power differences mainly?
I,m pretty sure all models of this age are 2.0 litres.

A: get your hands on a P1 and then you will see the difference ;) .. But i would prefer the evo to be honest far more reliable ;)

Q: What are the best rims for a subaru impreza 5 door?
I have a 2008 subaru impreza 5 door wagon. What would the best looking rims be and what are the best size rims for it.

A: Check with www.tirerack.com
They have a section where you can picture your type of car with different styles of wheels to see how they look.

Q: Should the rear wheels on my 06 Subaru Impreza 2.5i spin freely while in park with the car off?
I have an 06 Subaru Impreza 2.5i with an automatic transmission and when I have a rear wheel on a jack it spins freely but the front wheels don’t. The car is in park and off and I can’t figure out why the rear wheels aren’t locked like the front wheels. Both rear wheels spin freely. Should putting the car into park lock all 4 wheels without using the emergency brake?

A: There is a built in bias to front wheel drive. That is where the most weight and the most traction is. So there is more slip in the rear wheels and differential when nothing is really going on. However, should your same car be having trouble making a grade in slippery conditions the control modules would throw more bias than usual to the rear to get the job done. Putting the car in park should not lock the front and rear completely.
And Subaru does it best.

Q: How much will it cost to replace the catalytic converter on my 1998 Subaru Impreza?
I’ve been told a flange on the catalytic converter has broken off due to rust (I had a friend check it out after it started making a terrible noise). This is the base model 98 Impreza. About how much will it cost to have this replaced (part + labor). I do not need an original factory part either. If they make generics for less I’d go for that.

A: does it have only one or more? go to scrap yard and get one.

Q: What is the fuel consumption for Lancer GLX and Subaru Impreza TS?
How many Km can u go with 1 litre of petrol in a Impreza and a Lancer?

A: 1- See this link:

http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/sbs.htm

2- Select the car you like and click on “compare side by side”

3- Select the second car.

It gives a 21 combined for Turbo charged Impreza and 24 combined for Lancer.

Q: What kind of headers should I get for my 2008 Subaru Impreza?
Is there any headers that make the boxer rumble be pronounced? I hate the stock headers because they sound like an inline. I want to make it sound like a WRX. It’s a non turbo 2.5i Impreza hatch. Please help.

A: best_1- Not flaming but I just checked cobbtuning.com their exhaust for the regular impreza only goes up to 05 models (rs) and not an 08 (i). Have a link to prove otherwise?
OP- Sorry but you will have to go with an unequal length header to produce the “boxer rumble” sound. This would require some custom work considering how your flanges won’t line up for a unequal length manifold. You realize you will lose power doing this as well correct? IMO not worth the time + money.

Q: How do you replace the Headlight bulb in a 2000 subaru impreza?
I wanted to changed my headlights to white lights in my 2000 Subaru Impreza RS but i don’t know how. I unplug the power to the bulb but cant get the bulb itself out of the light mount. I can touch the three prongs where you plug the power into but it won’t budge. Do i have to take the whole light housing out? Give me instructions please-

A: The rubber thing is covering the clips. Pull the rubber off and you’ll find the clips under it.

Q: Subaru Impreza non Turbo How can you clean the air intake and anyone know the drive F and R percentage?
Impreza non turbo 1997.
Iv only just baught the car it had a misfire/flat spot lucky fixed with injector cleaner.
Can i spray Carb cleaner down the air intake or could it damage somthing because its injection?
Anyone know how much power drives the front wheels and how much power drives the rear wheels?

A: firstly dont spray anything down the air intake generally it strips the oil off the upper cylender also with it being carb cleaner it may not be suitable for a car with a catalyctic converter
also its usually a 60/40 split to the rear on an impreza depending on the model though

Q: What kinds of enginge swaps could you do in a Subaru Impreza?
I have a 2003 Subaru Impreza WRX 2 liter. I know the other Imprezas have 2.5 liter engines, but aside from those what other kinds of engines do people usually drop into those things?

A: Usually, the only engine ever swapped into a WRX is the STI or 2006+ WRX 2.5l. The only reason why you really should swap for a 2.5 is if you want to run a large turbo which would generate a lot of lag with a 2.0l, it also has better overall low and mid range torque. However on a stock 2.5, boost peaks at only 11.6 psi which really doesn’t matter because if your swapping engines, odds are your putting in a larger turbo. But yea, I dont really know of any other engines that are commonly dropped into the WRX, and personally, thats the only other engine i would think about putting in mine.
